We've all had those nights when we just can't wait for our heads to hit that pillow. When you're feeling so tired, you can't even fathom washing your face and removing your makeup. Here's why skipping makeup removal is just not worth it!
EYE IRRITATION AND INFECTION
Leftover eye products such as eye shadow and eye liner, cause irritation, dryness and unwanted eye infections. Also, mascara can be harsh on the eyelashes, causing them to become brittle, break and shed more quickly.
Snoozing in any type of makeup is harmful to the skin, but products like foundation can cause the breakdown of collagen and premature aging. How? The large particles and pigments from the foundation break down throughout the day while your skin is also being exposed to environmental pollutants. Not removing the foundation and any of the overlying makeup, prevents microcirculation, which helps renew skin.
Dozing off with your makeup can lead to clogged pores and blemishes when left on the skin for too long. Not removing your makeup can also make existing acne conditions even worse.
DRY & UNEVEN SKIN
Leaving makeup residue on your face creates a barrier on the surface of your skin. This means any oxygen or added moisturizer will not penetrate through the skin, leaving your skin rough and parched. A layer of makeup also prevents normal skin shedding that will ultimately slow down the renewal process and result in uneven and dull textured skin.
WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO REMOVE MAKEUP?
At the end of the day, remove all makeup - but be sure to do this gently. Continuous rubbing every night with a towel and harsh makeup removers can be irritating and lead to pigment changes (such as dark circles!). So use a gentle method such as olive oil and a soft cloth.
