3 Skin Products You Don't Actually Need.jpg

With so many skin products out in the marketplace, it can be hard to decipher what works and what we actually need. Great marketing and shiny packaging can certainly make anyone buy the latest fad cream, serum or celebrity approved skincare line. That's why Dr. Marc Meulener, our Marko & Lane co-founder and leading dermatologist suggests to take the following off your shopping list.

If you're more interested in anti-aging benefits, then leave the toner behind because toner is best for people with specific skin issues. If you're someone with enlarged pores, extreme oil production, or Rosacea-prone skin, then toner can be very beneficial. Otherwise, put your money away fast!

A popular way folks try to make their skin look younger is by removing old, dead layers with expensive exfoliators and microdermabrasion. It's true that the skin underneath is fresh and new, but if done too often, they can thin the skin and irritate it over time. Furthermore, some topical products use small plastic beads to exfoliate. Trillions of these tiny beads have made their way down the drain and into our environment. They've been found in large quantities in lakes and have been shown to cause significant damage to marine life, and potentially contaminate our own food source. There are now laws restricting and eventually eliminating their production. Save your money and use a gentle home exfoliator such as nutmeg and milk.

Under-eye circles are a nuisance but unfortunately, no cream is actually going to cure the problem long term. With ingredients such as caffeine, some creams can reduce puffiness temporarily but your better off focusing on the root of the problem. Get enough sleep, go easy on the salt shaker, manage your allergies and lay off the alcohol.
